Diana-saur, Roar!

Today was my first day of actually teaching, and it was 4 classes of 1st graders! Sounds intimidating, but it was pretty awesome. I definitely think I can handle a couple hours of the little guys one day a week (and hopefully that sentiment will last!). This is the one job I get to use hand puppets at work, so I did. We talked about "family," and did a worksheet and stuff (LOVE worksheets-they take up so much time ;) ).
So, the two highlights of my day were: one, concerning the title of todays blog; Right before one of the classes, a little boy asked me what my name was, and I told him, and his response was "Diana-saur, roar!" (and he did do a little roar, and hand motions). The second one was after one of my classes (I think it was the second), a little girl came after me (that sounds scary...) and gave me a little piece of korean gum. I have photographed it, and will post it when internet permits.
Other notes on today; I had to introduce myself to the school on their LIVE VIDEO announcements. It was pretty awkward, and I'm sure I looked like a dumb-ass. Oh well. I smiled a lot the whole time (my teacher for the teaching certificate said to smile a lot; that way, even if you are a crappy teacher, or whatever, they always put in your reviews that you smiled and are friendly; it makes up for teaching deficiency, lol). Then at the end of the day, I introduced myself to the teachers personally during their teacher meeting, and just had a large room of blank faced Korean women staring at me...they didn't understand a word of what I said.
Tomorrow: 6th graders again...but I still get to just watch :)

  2. Yeah, when the little kid did that I thought of you (i think your myspace is daynasaur or something). And if smiling worked in the US, I'd do it all the time....:)
